Gaorui (Gary) Liu is an experienced vascular sonographer and clinical educator specializing in vascular and venous diagnostics. He currently serves as Section Chief of the Vascular Laboratory at Nepean Hospital and as a Senior Vascular Sonographer at the Western Sydney Vascular Laboratory, where he oversees clinical standards, imaging protocols, and quality assurance across multiple sites.

Gary holds the RPhS credential (Registered Phlebology Sonographer) through Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) and is a Fellow of the Australasian Sonographers Association (FASA), reflecting his expertise in ultrasound practice and professional development. He also holds an academic appointment as Adjunct Honorary Lecturer at Western Sydney University, supporting the education and mentorship of future vascular sonographers.

In 2026, Gary completed his PhD at the University of Sydney, focusing on phlebology ultrasound and clinical research. He has authored 8 SCI-indexed journal publications, contributed chapters to published texts, and participated in the English-to-Chinese translation of Duplex Scanning in Vascular Disorders, a foundational reference in vascular sonography.

Gary is actively involved in national and international professional initiatives, including leading the Australasian Sonographers Association’s special interest group in developing evidence-based chronic venous insufficiency ultrasound guidelines. He maintains a particular interest in CHIVA (conservative haemodynamic cure for venous insufficiency), is a member of the Asian Venous Academy, and has completed the Masterclass in Ultrasound of Superficial Leg Veins through the German CHIVA Society.

Through his work in clinical practice, research, and education, Gary contributes to the advancement of vascular ultrasound standards, venous assessment, and clinical training, supporting the ongoing development of sonography and venous care in Australia, Asia, and internationally.
