The clinical demand for venous disease management, healthcare system structures, and physician training pathways vary considerably across different regions of Asia. Advancing academic collaboration and medical education while respecting both medical principles and regional realities remains a key challenge in the development of venous medicine.

In this context, the Asian Venous Academy will host a Preliminary Assessment Meeting on the Development of Venous Medicine in Southeast Asia on February 6, 2026 (morning) at W50, Wong Chuk Hang Road, Southern District, Hong Kong.

This meeting is conceived as a small-scale, invitation-based professional exchange, focusing on the current landscape and potential development pathways of venous medicine in Southeast Asia. It is intended as an exploratory discussion rather than a decision-making forum, with the aim of generating reference perspectives to inform future academic and educational initiatives.

Key discussion areas will include:

  • Possible collaboration models for the Global CHIVA Program in Southeast Asia

  • Clinical applicability of High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) for the treatment of varicose veins

  • The development status of regional venous societies and academic platforms

  • Initial planning for an Open Access (OA) journal in venous disease

  • POCUS-based hemodynamic assessment training

Through discussions spanning academic research, medical education, and clinical practice, the meeting seeks to promote context-sensitive analysis and avoid the direct transfer of models from other regions without critical evaluation.

The Asian Venous Academy will continue to advance academic collaboration, education, and professional exchange across Asia based on insights derived from such assessments. Outcomes from this meeting will be used as reference material for subsequent initiatives and shared publicly at an appropriate stage.
