On September 19, 2026, the international launch of the Standardized Chinese Terminology for CHIVA (2026 Edition) was held in Hong Kong, China.
Several members of the Academic Advisory Board of the Asian Venous Academy (AVA), together with experts from the Dr. Smile Medical Group, attended the launch event. The Global CHIVA Program and Inteleos, an internationally recognized organization in medical education, assessment, and certification, also delivered congratulatory remarks via video.
The Standardized Chinese Terminology for CHIVA (2026 Edition) was developed to establish consistent and standardized Chinese-language expressions for terminology related to CHIVA and venous hemodynamics. It provides a unified professional language framework to support CHIVA clinical practice, medical education, academic communication, and international knowledge exchange.
01 Establishing a Unified and Standardized Chinese Terminology System for CHIVA
In recent years, the CHIVA concept has continued to gain recognition and application internationally. Its systematic development and long-term advancement rely not only on a sound theoretical framework, standardized clinical pathways, case-based academic discussion, structured training, and assessment mechanisms, but also on a consistent and precise professional language.
As CHIVA training systems continue to evolve and international academic exchange becomes increasingly active, there has been a growing need to standardize the translation, interpretation, and use of CHIVA-related terminology in the Chinese-language medical community.
The development and review of the Standardized Chinese Terminology for CHIVA (2026 Edition) were therefore initiated with the long-term development of the field in mind, with the aim of systematically organizing and standardizing key terms related to CHIVA and venous hemodynamics.
02 International Collaboration in Development and Review
The terminology project brought together experts and scholars in venous disease from China and abroad.
The Asian Venous Academy served as the principal publishing organization. The Global CHIVA Program and Dr. Smile Medical Group jointly participated in the development process, while Inteleos contributed to international collaboration and the joint launch.
Professor Claude Franceschi of France, a pioneer in venous hemodynamics and the founder of CHIVA, together with several members of the AVA Academic Advisory Board, participated in the review of the terminology.
Throughout the development process, the working group sought to preserve the scientific principles of venous hemodynamics while also considering Chinese-language medical usage and internationally accepted academic expressions. Relevant terms were systematically discussed, translated, reviewed, and standardized.
03 Supporting CHIVA Education, Clinical Practice, and Academic Exchange

A standardized terminology system is an essential foundation for the development of professional education and academic disciplines.
During the launch event, Ms. Bei Ma, Global Strategic Advisor to the Global CHIVA Program, stated that the terminology is intended not only to support the Global CHIVA Program, but also to contribute more broadly to education in the diagnosis and treatment of venous disease worldwide.
The terminology will be progressively incorporated into different levels of the Global CHIVA Program, including teaching modules, educational materials, and professional communication, helping learners build a more consistent conceptual framework for CHIVA.

Dr. Xin Du, a member of the CHIVA Chinese Terminology Working Group and a member of the AVA Academic Advisory Board, explained that standardized and accurate professional language can help clinicians establish a more consistent understanding of CHIVA theory and hemodynamic analysis, thereby supporting more standardized clinical practice.

At the launch event, Dr. Jianping Deng, a member of the Global CHIVA Program Expert Panel and a CHIVA instructor with the Asian Venous Academy, presented an interpretation of selected key terms on behalf of the working group and explained their conceptual logic and intended use within the Chinese-language medical context.
04 Advancing the Standardization of CHIVA as an International Academic System
The publication of the Standardized Chinese Terminology for CHIVA (2026 Edition) represents an important step in the standardization of CHIVA-related academic communication in Chinese.
As CHIVA continues to develop across different countries and regions, the field is expanding beyond the dissemination of clinical techniques to include terminology standards, medical education, professional training, academic exchange, and international certification.
A unified Chinese terminology system will help strengthen communication between the Chinese-speaking medical community and the international CHIVA academic community, while providing a more consistent linguistic foundation for future clinical education, case discussion, research, and professional training.
Asian Venous Academy will continue to collaborate with experts and professional organizations in the field of venous disease worldwide to promote the standardization and international development of CHIVA and venous hemodynamics, and to support continued progress in medical education, clinical practice, and academic exchange.
