Standardizing CHIVA in Chinese: Official Terminology to Be Released in Hong Kong

Hong Kong, 19 September 2026 — Standardized Chinese Terminology for CHIVA(2026 Edition) will be officially released in Hong Kong, marking an important step toward the standardized communication and development of CHIVA across the Chinese-speaking medical community.

The terminology will be published primarily by the Asian Venous Academy. Its development was jointly organized by the Global CHIVA Program and Dr. Smile Medical Group, with international collaboration and co-publication support from Inteleos.

Throughout the development process, Professor Claude Franceschi, founder of CHIVA, and the majority of the members of the Academic Advisory Committee of the Asian Venous Academy participated in the review and provided expert recommendations. Their involvement helped ensure that the terminology remains faithful to the fundamental hemodynamic principles of CHIVA while being precise, clinically relevant and appropriate for professional communication in Chinese.

At the official launch event, Dr. Xin Du, representing the CHIVA Chinese Terminology Working Group, will present the development process behind the terminology. Her presentation will address the major points of discussion, the linguistic and clinical considerations involved, and the principles used to reach the final consensus.

The publication of the 2026 edition represents far more than the unification of names and translations. It establishes a clear, accurate and sustainable professional language system for CHIVA education, clinical communication, academic research and international collaboration throughout the Chinese-speaking world.

By providing standardized terminology that can be consistently understood and applied, this initiative is expected to strengthen communication among physicians, educators and researchers, support the development of CHIVA training programs, and facilitate deeper academic exchange between the Chinese-speaking medical community and international vascular specialists.

Standardized Chinese Terminology for CHIVA(2026 Edition) also provides a foundation for continued review and future updates as clinical practice, education and research in hemodynamic venous treatment continue to evolve.

Its official release reflects a shared commitment to advancing the accurate understanding, responsible practice and sustainable development of CHIVA internationally.
